New expressway link between Phnom Penh and Bavet enters final phase

The 135 km toll road is scheduled to open to traffic next year, cutting travel time to the Vietnamese border to roughly two hours.
Construction of the 135-kilometre expressway linking Phnom Penh with the Vietnamese border town of Bavet has entered its final phase, with contractors focused on tolling gantries, lighting and the last interchanges.
Once open, the road is expected to cut the drive from the capital to the border from more than four hours to roughly two, easing pressure on National Road 1 and speeding freight to Ho Chi Minh City.
Officials say the corridor is central to Cambodia's plan to connect its industrial parks with regional ports, and further sections toward Sihanoukville and Siem Reap are already being studied.
